Amber
tells many tales of ancient times because of the trapped,
now fossilized remains of small insects dating back millions
of years. Having Dominican amber jewelry can be a very
special experience for the bride.
Amber is the oldest substance
used for jewelry. Ancient societies as old as 8000 B.C.
were known to have worn amber for both it's beauty, an
healing qualities. Amber has also been known to have a
calming effect on its wearer, since it has similar energy
properties as a quartz stone. Those who wear amber jewelry
once, always end up keeping it for ever.

Dominican Amber
is reputed to be the best
in the world for it's range of color, it's
translucency and high frequency of trapped
specimens. Amber comes in a honey or Gold color it
comes in shades of green, red, and even blue which
is very rare. In 1989 scientist examined a piece of
trapped mushroom and determined that it was more
than 25 million years old, twice as old as mushrooms
were thought to be, of course most amber does not
contain preserved animals, plants or insects.
Traditionally the Baltic was the source of most of
the worlds amber but today, some geologist think
that the Dominican reserves may be the worlds
largest. Dominican Weddings in this beautiful island

Larimar
is a very special rock, a blue pectolite, and a
result of volcanic activity, which occurred millions
of years ago on the island. Its crystallization took
place when the volcanic lava was cooling off as
columns in the tubular "chimneys", in which these
pectolites, andesites, basalts and other minerals
formed. Larimar is only found in the island of
Dominican Republic, which makes it uniquely attached
to the island's
culture
and history throughout the ages. The only place in
the world where Larimar or blue pectolite appears on
the terrestrial crust, is the province of Barahona,
in the south-western region of the Dominican
Republic.
Larimar's volcanic heritage gives Larimar a powerful
strength and durability. Larimar is a hard stone
that can easily withstand the rigors of daily wear.
Often mistaken for Turquoise, Larimar is a much more
durable stone with a hardness rating of 5 to 7. To
look upon Larimar is to see the swirling seas of the
Caribbean captured in an ocean's palette of blues
and greens.
Its blue color inspires jewelers across the
world to create fine pieces of jewelry. This blue
stone is the true native Dominican jewel stone and
one of the most recommended Dominican stones.

Nature ensures
that no stone is alike, so each owner enjoys the
distinctive hues, patterns and natural wonder of
each beautiful gem. Just like any natural Caribbean
gemstone, the quality of Larimar varies
dramatically. Our craftsmen use only the finest
stones. A combination of several factors affect the
quality, they include: color, pattern, luminosity,
clarity and translucency. There is no one individual
aspect that influences the grade of each stone.
Rather, it is how each attribute combines into a
piece of singular beauty. Who knows why
nature chooses to hide its rare wonders in any
particular location? For Larimar, the remote
mountain ranges on the Island of Hispaniola contain
a single square kilometer of land that is the source
of Larimar - the only place on earth one can find
this rare stone.

With such a small deposit,
the mining of Larimar is a delicate affair.
It is mined only by hand up to 300 feet
below ground. The veins and deposits can be
quite small and often take months to locate.
When a vein is found, it is followed for as
long as possible. It is not unusual for
miners to go many months without seeing a
single piece of Larimar. There are many
factors that limit the amount of this rare
and precious stone available to us, but the
effort is well worth it. Larimar is an
amazing stone with great beauty, history and
heritage. |
